Schumacher: April 2021
3 Decorating Rules To Live By
We recently paid a visit to the New York City home of interior designer Robert Passal, who invited us in for a house tour - be sure to watch the video on YouTube! Luxuriously livable, his exquisite interiors are a lesson in decorating. Read on for a few design rules to live by, straight from the source.
Add Layers of a Single Color for a Cocoon Effect
Passal’s living room and multipurpose study are both, he says, “all about being in a cocoon”. To create dimension, he punctuates their monochromatic palettes with little punches of color.
2. Soundproof your rooms
To control the city noise, Passal upholstered the walls in a Schumacher cotton velvet. “The Schumacher velvet really brings warmth to the space and incredible sound absorption,” Passal says.
3. Build a Lighting Scheme
“Lighting is the most important element in design and decor. There’s table lighting, task lighting, overhead lighting, art lighting… and all those lights really create a space that becomes warm and inviting, and it really allows you to adapt your room to your situation,” says Passal. “I am also 100% adamant about dimmers - whether you’re in a rental or a long-term owner, dimmers will change your life.”
