The Style Edit: August 2020
As a designer, I am continually in search of great finds and inspiring elements that bring personality to a home. The hunt has become a passion and an innate part of my life. Wherever I may be, I am subconsciously always on the lookout for the next great find. Discovering new artists, creative makers, books, and just great design is the antidote when I hit an artistic wall. Initially I was saving these inspirational finds in my Instagram and Pinterest files. I would refer to them as needed when building projects or for my own personal indulgence. Through social media and amongst peers I am often asked where to source various items so I have decided to share some inspirations, trade resources and great finds on a monthly basis with you. August seems like the perfect month to launch this as summer wraps up and we get back to business.

Creator
Based in Brooklyn, artist and textile designer Wayne Pate has become my latest fascination. From his ornamental wallcoverings to hand-painted lampshades, fabrics, ceramics and everything in between, Wayne’s artistic work animates any space with playful, yet sophisticated simplicity.
Inspired by Matisse and old world architecture, Wayne’s whimsical creations reflect a combination of the old and the new for an eclectic, lively blend of bold colors, shapes and patterns.
I admire the curiosity, historical references and deeply visual nature of his work. Particularly the vibrance and textural layering of each of his pieces. Discover more of his work on Instagram @waynepate.

For many designers, Instagram serves as an elaborate and ever-evolving mood board. Internationally published and award winning design firm, Alidad Ltd., is at the top of my list for daily Instagram inspiration. Based in London and inspired by the rich, mysterious lands of Persia, Alidad’s interiors transcends us into another place and time. With a historically infused design aesthetic, the spaces he develops maintain a true sense of establishment and timeless elegance. Swoon Worthy Accessories
I am a firm believer that art and accessories are what makes a house a home. They have the ability to make your home truly representative of you, your lifestyle and, often, your history. I have followed the exceptional career of Reinaldo Sanguino for more years than I can recall. His work packs a punch and is at the top of my list for unique finds and one of a kind ceramic furnishings and objects.
Born in Venezuela, Reinaldo’s outspoken style speaks to the relationship between people and their surroundings. What I’m Reading
The southern regions of Italy never disappoints. It is rich in culture and influences from the various countries that surround it. When I visit I feel especially connected to the land, people and the simple yet exceptional food of this region.
Magnificent Interiors of Sicily: A collection of most exclusive residences and luxury villas found along the coast of Southern Sicily. This book written by Sameuele Mazza highlights the stunning mansions, architectural interest and rare beauties of the enchanting Val di Noto region. Reminiscent of my last travels to Italy, a muse to my forthcoming projects, this book is perfect for those who love to daydream of paradise.

Trade Secret
While working on a project in Portugal I was truly fortunate to discover Maps Wonders . Their furnishings invite a sense of timeless luxury into any home. Mapswonders is my go-to trade resource for handcrafted, discerning selections of classic, deco and mid-century French styles. What I’m Wearing
Dark and mysterious, Penhalogon’s Halfeti is an exceptionally deep and exotic fragrance that maintains a complex and opulent scent. Named after the rare black roses that bloom along the Halfeti village in Southeastern Turkey. Just about every time I am wearing this fragrance I am stopped by a random stranger who asks about the scent, what it is and where to get it.

Must Have
Many of the spaces I design include authentic, hand woven pillows from Nzuri Textiles, a boutique textile studio based in Nevada City, California. These ethically sourced and sustainably produced pillows feature versatile and cultured designs from weavers and artisans throughout Africa, Mongolia and the United states for a rich, colorful beauty to enliven the home.
Hot Spot
During times like these, living in the heart of New York City has been challenging and stressful at best.
